CONFRONTATİON(S)
Place and time… The extensions of defining the life... The concepts for the definition of its existence. Man’s journey from the past through the present to the future, namely the time...
A concept among the most concrete findings of man’s history. Starting at a given time, life passes quickly and oscillates between the past and future, confronting us with the realities at a given point of it.
Mustafa Bulat is in the process of searching in his sculptures for the traces of these confrontations within the art, which is the only witness to man’s existence in the old times...
He is, in a sense, investigating the confrontation of the entity in the loss extending from a moment at a point to another time in the face of the abstraction of the extension assumed to be drawn between two ends in the universe.
Two figures of woman, a figure of man, a half-chiseled and melted stone... Two humans confronting within the place and representing the repeated continuity of life...
A figure and the shapes from the extensions with distinction at different places... The most distinguishing is a confrontation...
For Bulat, confrontation finds a place for itself in the sculpture-producing ide by the conversion of the figures used in the place into peculiar shapes...
Two different humans take place in the utmost simplicity, narrative. The place and time in which life exists...
The event that is defined as the starting point and a setting of life in the historical process......
In every setting, this event of confrontation is witnessed.... These settings are beyond the real places where we share our lives.... Real settings and real times are the symbols/images that we try to express in figures/forms.
Figures and settings are the targets to reach, a process that has been experienced from the beginning of life onward. Formal lure of the textural surfaces orientates the movement and energy in Bulat’s sculptures, in which doors stand out as symbols...
Setting and confrontation... The most powerful image associated with the door is meeting and confrontation…
With a metaphysical or mystical confrontation does Bulat symbolize the concept of confrontation... With a concept parallel to the act of going... The peak of the passion for confrontation is in the end point of a road turning into two spots in a setting by confrontation and evoking its beginning...
Only then is the pain of waiting perceived and a door that leads to the confrontation becomes a place of meeting and, facing and confrontation…
Every object is an image or symbol in Bulat’s art. The basis of Bulat’s sculpture designing is based on the research for the creation of thought. In Bulat’s works, world windows, doors and sundials open to the life labyrinths within the stone among the irregularly-cut sculptures of geometric flat-cut forms.
Outward massive stones are cut and dressed in such a way as to stand on the ground.
A new perspective is created where they stand and thus each angle is designed to exhibit the life in the stone.
In other words, polished surfaces are attached to the wall form and the marble is provided with the air that it is still original and untouched by the artist in its earliest form.
Bulat aims to focus on the dissimilar evocations of the associations he finds between the styles.
To realize these purposes, he questions the subjects in setting and time. Each form, each object that seems familiar to us gains a concrete value and turns into a new position. In this process, he inclines towards the thoughts, or the values, that rest on the form. He tries to assign new concepts to the objects that express themselves and to create different thoughts by these assigned thoughts in his works, namely sculptures.
Bulat dives into syntheses in this process, striving to create new thoughts in the known values on setting, time and concept. Synchronism, his passion that gives multi meanings to the dimension of thought, changes into new thoughts. Creating thought, the impulsive force of existence, is resolved with the individual posture.
Figures are converted into compositions, styles into images, symbols and sculptures, the very sculptures by Mustafa Bulat....
